Individuals who have spent the past 15 plus months or longer waiting to get back to their usual activities will be getting that chance this summer.

With COVID-19 infection rates trending down throughout the state and area and with many restaurants, gyms, hotels and other venues back either reopened or planning to reopen, the sense of normal is beginning to return.

In May, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced people who are fully vaccinated against the coronavirus — meaning at least two weeks past their final shot — can go unmasked and without social distancing in most situations with little risk.

“Many people welcome these guidelines which represent another step toward normalcy,” said Lisa Peacock, health officer with the Health Department of Northwest Michigan. “We can enjoy these new freedoms thanks in large part to the rising level of vaccination coverage across our state.”
